Personalized Service for DuPage County Divorce Clients

We know that divorce is one of the most difficult transitions you may ever face, and that each person’s experience, concerns, and goals are different. Our team of veteran divorce attorneys is committed to listening to each client, understanding his or her situation and priorities, and devising the most effective means of protecting his or her interests.

You will never get one-size-fits-all or assembly-line treatment with our firm. We will answer your questions, address your concerns, and fully explain your options. And, we’ll adapt our approach to best suit your needs, whether that means negotiating a settlement or fighting to protect your interests in court.

Mediation in Divorce Cases

Negotiating the terms of your divorce can be advantageous for everyone. It generally saves time, is less expensive, and minimizes stress and conflict. However, most couples cannot resolve all of the issues in a divorce case on their own.
When both parties are interested in reaching a peaceful resolution, but they haven’t been able to come to terms, mediation is often a good option.

We encourage divorce mediation when it seems a reasonable solution for our clients, because a mediated divorce settlement is typically:

  • Less expensive than arguing the issues in court
  • Quicker and more informal than courtroom proceedings
  • Less contentious, and thus less stressful for both parties
  • More conducive to future cooperation

Unlike a judge, a mediator does not render a decision or tell the parties what to do. Instead, he or she serves as a neutral facilitator, assisting the parties in reaching an agreement. If mediation fails and the divorcing couple is unable to reach an agreement, the attempted mediation has no impact on the case and the parties are free to proceed to a contested hearing.

Divorce Litigation

Arguing issues such as child custody, possession of your family home, spousal maintenance and other personal issues in the court room is never pleasant. However, in some cases it is the best way for one party to get fair treatment, whether that means adequate involvement with the couple’s children or sufficient financial support to start a new life after divorce.

Our attorneys are experienced in litigating all aspects of divorce cases, and are fully prepared to fight for you in court if that is the best way to achieve your goals. We will assemble evidence on your behalf, interview and prepare witnesses, search for hidden assets, and take other action as needed to build the most effective possible case on your behalf.

Other Glen Ellyn Family Law Matters

While much of family law revolves around terminating marriages and dividing up property, child-rearing responsibilities, and income, family law attorneys also assist with new beginnings.

Adoption

Welcoming a new child into your family is one of the most exciting events in most people’s lives. When that child joins your family through adoption, it’s important that the process move forward smoothly and correctly, to cement your legal bond to your child as soon as possible. If you are a stepparent adopting a child who is already a part of your family, the adoption should be a joyous occasion for the whole family.
Our attorneys have the knowledge and experience to help you navigate the adoption process efficiently and ensure that your family is protected.

Paternity

Establishment of paternity is an important step for the father, the mother, and the child. For the father, a paternity order means his legal relationship with the child is protected, even if the mother should marry, pass away, or otherwise separate from the father. For the mother, it means that another adult has an obligation to support and care for the child, helping to secure the child’s future.

The attorneys at Abear Law Offices help both mothers and fathers establish paternity and exercise their associated rights.

Pre-Nuptial Agreements

Our attorneys know that a well-formulated pre-nuptial agreement can provide a sense of security and confidence to both parties entering into marriage. Whether you need a pre-nuptial agreement drafted or have been asked to sign one and need an experienced attorney to review the document and advise you, we can help.
